Whisker & Brush
The School
Whisker & Brush is an art school in Amagansett where children are encouraged to slow down, follow their curiosity, and develop ideas through art. Working with painting, drawing, sculpture, collage, and mixed media, students build skills while exploring their own creative voice.
Each class begins with a moment to arrive, imagine, and connect. We value process over perfection, encouraging children to experiment, take creative risks, and discover what is possible through making.
Founded by artist, writer, and educator Pia Leighton, Whisker & Brush is a place where creativity, mindfulness, and self-expression are nurtured side by side.
Our Approach
At Whisker & Brush, we believe art is more than a finished product—it is a process of exploration, attention, and discovery. Our approach balances creative freedom with the introduction of artistic techniques, meeting each child where they are while encouraging them to grow. Whether experimenting with watercolor, building with clay, or illustrating their own stories, students are supported in developing skills, confidence, and a lasting trust in their creative instincts.
What We Teach
From the fundamentals of drawing, painting, and color theory to the exploration of symbolism, storytelling, and visual thinking, our curriculum grows with each child. Projects are inspired by nature, art history, philosophy, literature, and the world around us, inviting students to observe closely and think creatively. Working with materials such as watercolor, charcoal, ink, clay, collage, and recycled objects, children develop technical skills while learning to experiment, problem-solve, and bring their ideas to life.

Why It Matters
In a fast-paced world, children need places where they can slow down, pay attention, and connect with themselves. While technology plays an important role in modern life, we believe creativity grows through direct experience. Through making, experimenting, observing, and imagining.
Whisker & Brush offers a welcoming space where children can explore ideas, develop confidence in their creative instincts, and create work that reflects their unique way of seeing the world. Many families tell us it is their child's favorite hour of the week, and we don't take that lightly.
